The Great Himalayan National Park discovered in the Kullu region in the northern part of Himachal Pradesh was established in 1984. Under the 1972 Wildlife Protection Act, the Great Himalayan National Park was developed to conserve, maintain and reproduce wilderness. The importance of the park was realized and in 20 years the park was fully inaugurated. From 1980 to 1983, the multinational scientist’s team analyzed the Kullu region and suggested the innovation of the Great Himalayan national park in Banjaar Area. Then in 1984, the Himachal government communicated the motive to create the park. The accommodation of ownership of local populations in GNHP started in 1988. From 1994 to 1999 under the biodiversity program, economic growth councils of 16 villages were created to bring regional societies in biodiversity protection. In 2010, 710sq km was declared as Khirganga National Park in the northern part of GHNP to uphold the protection efforts. In 2014, the Great Himalayan National Park was presented as a World Heritage Natural Site. And the two Sainj and Tirthan wildlife sanctuaries that were to be merged with GNHP were conserved as wildlife sanctuaries only. And finally, in 2015 GHNP logo got certified by the Himachal Pradesh government.
