History of Bagheswar
The area now known as Bageshwar was historically known as Danpur and was ruled by Katyuris during the 7th century AD. After the Katyuri kingdom’s disintegration in the 13th century, the area remained under the rule of Baijnath Katyuris, direct descendants of Katyuri kings.
In 1997, the Bageshwar district was carved out of Almora district and made a new district of Uttar Pradesh state. Bageshwar came to Uttarakhand state created in November 2000 from Himalayan and adjoining northwestern districts of Uttar Pradesh.
